Greene County Habitat for Humanity was established in December 1996 by John Ludwig as a chartered affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, International. Habitat volunteers build new homes in partnership with future homeowners, with support and resources from the local community, in order to make safe, decent, and affordable housing available to low-income families.
The first Habitat house in Greene County was built in 1997 and sold to our first homeowner with a 20-year interest-free mortgage. With growing support from the community, through both monetary and in-kind donations and volunteer services, a total of 63 homes have been built.
Greene County Habitat for Humanity is the largest non-profit residential builder in the Lake Country. We have attracted approximately 300 volunteers and have obtained support from individuals, churches, businesses, and other organizations, all collaborating together to provide affordable housing for those in need.
