Greensboro, Georgia, February 11, 2020 — Greene County Habitat for Humanity (GC Habitat) is the recipient of $3,679 from long-time GC Habitat supporter – The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro. Raised through a year-long Cash Calendar fundraiser organized by Redeemer, the proceeds are being donated to provide GC Habitat residents and students post-secondary option scholarships as well as assistance with other associated post-secondary education expenses not typically provided through traditional scholarships and grants.

Unique to Greene County, the Education Program has been an integral service component provided by GC Habitat for Humanity. The Education Program, started and managed for many years by Dave Thillen, provides all students living in Habitat homes with a computer. Computers are equipped with age-appropriate software that is updated periodically. Those students graduating high school and pursuing secondary education that culminates in a degree or certification, are provided $1000 in scholarship assistance from GC Habitat. This program has been very successful and has resulted in significantly higher high school graduation rates for children raised in Habitat homes versus the population at large.

Located in downtown Greensboro, The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer has been active in the Lake Oconee community volunteering for over 150 years.

Greene County Habitat for Humanity volunteers build new homes in partnership with future homeowners. With support, resources and volunteers from the local community, we make safe, decent, and affordable housing available to low-income families. Through both monetary and in-kind donations and volunteer services, a total of 63 homes have been built since our inception in 1996. Greene County Habitat is the largest non-profit residential builder of affordable homes in the Lake Oconee area. If you are interested in donating or volunteering, please call 706-453-1718.
