How are families selected?
The Greene County Habitat family selection process is based on several strict criteria. Families selected must be living in inadequate or substandard conditions. In addition, our families have been unable to obtain a conventional loan or otherwise move up from public housing. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to pay a 25-year, no-interest mortgage, and be willing to partner with Greene County Habitat by working at least 300 sweat-equity hours; these hours may be earned by working construction on a home (theirs or other Habitat homes), and through a variety of other community endeavors. Each homeowner is partnered with a community mentor to help them navigate the process and ensure success.
Application workshops are held periodically. Potential homeowners are invited to attend and complete an pre-application for home ownership.
